About Innovators 1993 Inc.

Innovators 1993 Inc. is a family owned and operated business. We started off in 1993 with one product that we believed in and now we offer a full range of wheelchair accessories. Demand for our products has grown at such a rapid and steady pace that Innovators was the first company in 17 years to pay back it's start-up loan from the Alberta Heritage Foundation for Medical Research.

Innovators 1993 Inc was founded in 1993 by Carol White, a former nurse. While Carol was running a wheelchair sales and service business, she came up with an idea for a wheelchair back that would greatly benefit patients with curvature of the spine (kyphosis) and thus the K-Special back was born. Patents were secured and her new product went into clinical trials with occupational and physical therapists. The huge demand for this product inspired Carol to apply her talents to the design of more custom wheelchair products and now even though she has retired from the business end of things, Carol is still involved in the design of new products. Thanks to Carol's imagination and perseverance, the daily lives of patients all over North America have been improved and enriched.    (Photo originally appeared in the Fall 2002 edition of Research News and was supplied by Roth and Ramberg Photography.)

Gordon White took over the day-to-day management of Innovators in 2000 and is now the owner and CEO. Despite his many business duties, Gordon still likes to work in the shop now and then applying his creative side to hand crafting custom one-off orders. This keeps him in touch with every aspect of the business.

In the beginning of 2005, Gordon handed the General Management duties over to Debbie Higgins which freed him up to open new areas of opportunity and expansion.

  Debbie Higgins after 8 years of dedicated service has become the face of Innovators and the voice on the phone to our customers. Now the General Manager, she excels at keeping the product moving and in consistently providing great customer service. Debbie also heads up our accounting department.
